Highways
IHC has been building highways for state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) since 1947. We have won numerous awards for quality, partnering and project management. Our highway projects have ranged in size from less than $1 million to over $30 million. Over the last ten years our primary DOT customers, served from our division offices, have included Michigan, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and Arkansas. Internationally, in conjunction with Cemex, we have constructed roads and concession toll roads in Mexico, introducing modern slipform methods for PCCP in a technology transfer program initiated by Cemex with Mexican transportation officials.

We have built projects in Michigan and Colorado, providing Materials & Workmanship warranties under pilot, cooperative programs. We also built the first 10-year performance warranty project in Colorado.

We have utilized innovation on our highway projects implementing the latest state-of-the-art technology in PCCP and grading operations. For PCCP, our mechanical dowel bar inserters (DBI) have increased the quality and value, and enhanced safety and schedule on our projects. Our continuous improvement processes to give the user a better driving experience, especially in smoothness and low noise level longitudinal tining.

Our construction management expertise allows us to manage risk effectively and compete successfully on projects with demanding completion requirements and daily incentive/disincentive provisions of up to $50,000 per day.

We provide Contractor Quality Control on each of our projects ensuring our internal processes are to a standard that will not only guarantee contract compliance, but will also manage our own risk, making certain we do it right the first time.

Our A to Z capabilities permit us to subcontract and/or self-perform all major scope required on highway projects including demolition, grading, stabilization, drainage, structures, bases and pavements, and all supporting needs of marking, landscaping, traffic control, guard rail, and fence.
