IHC is dedicated to building with an eye toward environmental stewardship. This is one of our core values and, as such, is a major concern when designing, constructing, or bidding a project. IHC faces an increasing range of environmental issues involving air, water, land, energy use, architectural preservation, and endangered species impact, to name just a few.
One of the many steps we’ve taken along the path of environmental stewardship is the use of recycled materials during construction. This one step has the potential to save millions in taxpayer dollars, depending on the size of the project. It also, among other benefits, decreases the number of truck trips to and from an aggregate supplier, thus saving energy and decreasing our carbon footprint. Recycling what would otherwise be waste material into the highway construction also conserves valuable natural resources. As we continue to implement “green” construction, we have the opportunity to rebuild the transportation infrastructure of the country using sustainable materials and environmentally sensitive design. |
